Handle several deliveries in one picking trip

What this does

When several deliveries leave on the same day it is tempting to walk the warehouse once and pick them all together. WindoorERP's Batch, Wave & Cluster Transfers feature exists for exactly that — but it is not enabled on this platform. The module behind it is not installed, so there are no batch transfers, no wave picking and no cluster picking. This article explains how to run a multi-order picking round as the system stands, and what enabling the feature would add.

Before you start

Packages are available and are the useful half of the idea: one package per order keeps picked goods separated without any batching feature.
Fabricated window and door units do not come through this flow at all — they ship on the finished-goods delivery from production. This is about catalogue goods: hardware, sealant, accessories.

Steps

Important

Without the batching module, discipline replaces software: nothing stops a picker putting two orders' goods in one container, and nothing will catch it afterwards. One container per transfer, recorded with Put in Pack, is the whole method.

Open Inventory › Operations › Deliveries and filter to what is ready to go — by scheduled date, or by customer.

Print or open the transfers you intend to pick together. Each stays its own document; there is no combined picking list.

Take one container per order onto the trolley and keep them physically separate as you walk — that separation is what a cluster pick would otherwise enforce for you.

As each order's goods are collected, use Put in Pack on its transfer to record the package. The package travels with the goods and appears on the delivery.

Validate each transfer as it is completed, so the deliveries close individually and nothing waits on the slowest order in the round.

What the batch and cluster feature would add

Switched on, the feature adds a batch transfer document that groups several delivery transfers into one picking round with a single combined list, so a picker walks the route once. Wave picking splits that further — picking by zone or product across several orders — and cluster picking adds the trolley model this article's title describes: one bin per order, each item dropped straight into its bin as it is picked, with the system validating that the right item went into the right bin.

What it buys you is fewer walking kilometres per order line, which matters when a warehouse ships many small orders a day. On this fleet most outbound movement is fabricated units on their own delivery plus a modest tail of accessories, which is the case where batching earns least.

Note

The enabler is Batch, Wave & Cluster Transfers in the Operations section of Inventory › Configuration › Settings. Ticking it installs a module — an administrator decision, so raise it with the WindoorERP team rather than switching it on to try it.

Troubleshooting

Symptom	Cause and fix
There is no Batch Transfers menu	Correct — the module is not installed. The menu appears only once the setting installs it.
No way to combine transfers into one list	Same reason. Print the transfers you want to pick together and keep them separate physically.
Put in Pack is missing	That one is a group, not a module: Packages must be enabled in the Inventory settings. It is on for this platform.
Goods from two orders ended up mixed	Nothing detects that without cluster validation. Recount both orders against their transfers before either leaves the building.

Common mistakes

Picking several orders into one container "to save a trip", then trying to reconstruct which unit belonged to whom at the loading bay.
Validating all the transfers at the end of the round from memory rather than as each is packed.
Expecting the finished window units to appear in this flow — they ship from production, on their own delivery.
