10- Setup Your People, Skills and Hours

Who works here, what each of them is certified to operate, and where their hours go — the link between a payroll number and the cost of a window.

You have worked through every step. Keep the momentum — the next journey builds on what you just did.

All journeys

People are where a window factory's cost actually lives, and where most installations of an ERP quietly give up: the employee list is loaded, the timesheets are never filled in, and a year later nobody can say what a curtain wall cost to fabricate.

This path is built to avoid that. It connects three things that are usually separate — the HR record, the skill a machine demands, and the hour logged at a work order — so that logging time is a by-product of doing the work rather than an administrative task at the end of the week.

By the end you will be able to

  • Hold every employee once — profile, department, work location and job role
  • Onboard a new fabricator with a checklist instead of a colleague's memory
  • Record fabrication skills and certifications, so the machines from journey 6 only accept operators qualified to run them
  • Log hours against the project and the fabrication task that consumed them, not against a week
  • Capture operator attendance and setup time at the station, as part of the work order
  • See operator productivity and output efficiency per station, per shift
  • Decide which hours are billable, and read utilisation by employee, project and task
  • Give the floor something to aim at with the Momentum hub — achievements, leaderboards and daily insight

Before you start

  • Administrator rights, and the Employees and Timesheets apps installed
  • Your work centres and machines configured — "6- Setup Production and the Factory"
  • Analytic plans in place if you intend to cost projects — "8- Setup Accounting and Invoicing"
  • Your real shift patterns and the certification each machine legitimately requires — this journey encodes both, and guessing here puts an unqualified operator on a crimper
