Guided journey

13- Read Your Factory: Reporting and Dashboards

One number per department, in the order a window travels — and the one screen that puts them together for a Monday morning.

8 steps about 9 min Intermediate Owner, general manager or anyone who has to answer for the numbers

Journey complete

You have worked through every step. Keep the momentum — the next journey builds on what you just did.

All journeys

By this point every department is entering data. This path is where that data starts paying for the effort — one report per department, chosen because somebody can act on it, and arranged in the order a window actually travels through your company.

Read them in that order once, end to end. A win rate that looks fine beside a first-pass yield that does not tells you something neither number says alone, and that is the whole reason to have a single system rather than seven spreadsheets.

By the end you will be able to

  • Read the sales pipeline as win rate and cause of loss, not as a list of open deals
  • See factory throughput and control alerts as the day runs, not at month end
  • Compare standard against actual labour hours, and find the station that eats them
  • Measure site quality by first-pass yield and rework cost, per profile series
  • Track installation velocity against the milestones a contract promised
  • Watch service tickets and first-response time, because that is what a repeat customer remembers
  • See project profitability per contract, not just company profit
  • Build the one executive dashboard that carries all of it, and put it in front of the people who decide

Before you start

  • The departments you want to measure already in use — a report on empty data teaches nothing
  • Analytic accounts posting from projects — "8- Setup Accounting and Invoicing"
  • Timesheets actually being logged — "10- Setup Your People, Skills and Hours"
  • An honest answer to what you would change if a number were bad: a metric nobody will act on is a metric not worth configuring
